How the checker decides
- Temperature: the fish need a shared range of at least 2°F. Goldfish need cool water, so they don't mix with tropical fish.
- Size and mouths: angelfish and goldfish eat fish and shrimp small enough to swallow.
- Fins: tiger barbs, serpae tetras and black skirt tetras nip long fins on bettas, guppies and angelfish.
- Temper: bettas fight with each other and with gouramis, and male dwarf gouramis fight each other.
- Shrimp: most fish over about 2.5 inches eat baby shrimp, and some eat adults.
