Ember tetra care: tank size, temperature and tankmates
A tiny orange tetra that glows in a planted nano tank. Embers are peaceful and stay under an inch, which makes them one of the best schooling fish for 10 gallon tanks.
Quick facts
| Type | Tetra |
|---|---|
| Adult size | About 0.8 inches |
| Smallest tank | 10 gallons |
| Temperature | 73–82°F |
| Keep | 6 or more |
| Watch for | Peaceful. Keep the right group size. |
How to keep them
Use crushed flakes and micro pellets. Adult cherry shrimp are safe with them, but they will pick off some baby shrimp.
Like every fish, they need a cycled tank, a heater set inside their range, and a weekly water change of about 25%. Test for ammonia, nitrite and nitrate before you add them. New to this? Start with how to cycle a fish tank.
